Farmers from Thull and surrounding areas staged a protest sit-in at Rahbar Chowk against the severe water shortage and blocked the road by burning tires, bringing traffic to a standstill on both sides.
The protesters stated that their crops were withering due to the non-supply of canal water over the past several days, causing them financial losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of rupees. They alleged that small-scale farmers were being severely affected by the inequitable distribution of water.
The protesting farmers demanded that the government and the Irrigation Department immediately ensure the supply of water to agricultural lands, warning that otherwise, the scope of the protest would be expanded.
Traffic remained jammed for several hours at Rahbar Chowk during the protest, causing severe difficulties for commuters and citizens.
